What is JASMUN?
Jasienica Model United Nations, JASMUN, is a four-day-long MUN conference taking place on September 25-28th in Warsaw. A MUN is a simulation of real-life deliberations of the United Nations. Participants act as delegates, representing UN Member States and addressing various global issues. At JASMUN, participants can choose from 9 committees, allowing you to engage in sessions that match your interests. Our committees range from the all-time challenging Security Council, and the unexpected Crisis Committee, to more specialised ones like ECOFIN or SOCHUM. The wide range of committees addresses a variety of interests, including diplomacy, economics, sciences, history, and politics. Furthermore, JASMUN is a team of motivated young individuals who work hard to provide you with the best experience possible. This year, based on our international experience in places like Lübeck, Rome, and Budapest, we emphasise productive resolution writing, as well as on our ambitious Crisis Committee. Through participating in heated debates, careful negotiations with other delegations, or, finally, writing a resolution itself, JASMUN will help you develop some crucial skills such as public speaking, teamwork, and leadership. Finally, JASMUN is a fun, educational place that allows like-minded people to meet each other, have a good time, and learn.
How to prepare for a MUN?
Despite the initial worry that public speaking may evoke, being well-prepared will ensure you have a stress-free and enjoyable experience!
Here we come up with help! While preparing:
-
Make sure that all of your research is based on reliable sources, such as the government website of your country, as well as dependable articles.
-
Get accustomed to your committee's Study Guide. It's a document created by your chairs to introduce you to the topic and explain what will be the most important parts of your agenda. You are expected to treat it as a starting point and do further research beyond what is included in the Study Guide. You will receive access approximately 2 weeks before the conference starts.
-
Prior to the start of the debates, and based on your research, you are expected to prepare two Position Papers: documents that will summarise your country's policy related to the topics. This will help all delegates to better understand each other's policies. It is important that in your Position Paper, you propose solutions to the topic at hand. You can find information on how to write a Position Paper in JASMUN’s 2025 Rules of Procedure.
-
Finally, delegates are asked to prepare a short summary of their Position Papers, an Opening Speech, which you will present verbally at the start of the debates. We advise you to keep your Opening Speech brief and attention-grabbing. All information will be provided in the Rules of Procedure and by your chairs.
The rest of your work will be done throughout the course of the debates, in the form of creating a resolution, engaging in discussions, and amending the resolutions of others.
You can find all additional information on the flow of debates in our Rules of Procedure.
